Etymology

point + Arguello. From Spanish Argüello (“surname”). Coined by British Royal Navy officer, sea captain, explorer and Captain George Vancouver in 1792. Named after Spaniard frontier solider, politician, commandant of the Santa Barbara presidio, acting governor of Alta California and alférez (sublieutenant) José Darío Argüello.
